The application forms for the admission are made available in the months of May and June every year as per Academics. Admission to BSc Agriculture is done basically in 2 modes.

One is by scoring good marks in Examination which is a direct Admission and the other is getting qualified in a written exam conducted by the university. For the admission, the Universities grant merit-based admission to the B.Sc. Agriculture program.

The Eligibility for BSc Agriculture Program

The minimum age to join this course is 18 years. There is no upper age limit for the course specification. Students who have cleared their S.S.C program and Intermediate as  (10+2) with more than 55 percent marks can apply for this program with the background of science subjects.

BSc. Agriculture Basic Course Details

It is a 4 years long Undergraduate Bachelor Degree program. B.Sc. Agriculture program consists of topics such as- agriculture science, use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal and poultry management, basics of biotechnology, etc.

Let us consider real-life example agricultural practices in arid regions of Kutch, Gujarat, India. In this region, rainfall is scarce. Water resources are far too limited in this region. As a result, there was a shortage of water for agricultural activities.

B.Sc. Agriculture Eligibility Criteria

10+2 Science stream students with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects, who have passed their board examination from a recognized board, are eligible to pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria exist, which varies from one University to another. Generally, it is between 40-50% marks in PCB subjects.

B.Sc. Agriculture Admission Process

In order to secure admission into a good Govt college, you must take part in the relevant agriculture entrance exam. These exams are being carried out at State, College, and National levels each year.

If you want to get into a good college, you must score well in the relevant entrance exam. Reputed institutes rely on the merit-based admission process. Under this system of admission, seats are distributed among deserving candidates on the basis of their performance in the relevant entrance exam.

Some colleges are also known to carry out direct admission process (first come, first serve basis). Some other colleges are known to carry out donation based admission process.

B.Sc. Agriculture Scope, Job Opportunities After Graduation

Lots of Government, as well as Private job opportunities, are present in front of Graduates. Talking about Government jobs, State Agriculture Departments recruits Graduates to fill up Officer level posts. Government Banks also recruits Graduates to fill up Officer level posts (generally dealing with Loans).

Talking about Private Sector jobs, graduates may find jobs as Managers at Plantations, as Officers at Fertilizer Manufacturing firms, Agriculture Machinery Industries, Agricultural Products Marketing firms, Food processing units, etc. The average starting salary is generally between 2-4.5 Lakh Rupees per year.

B.Sc. Agriculture Postgraduate Courses and Higher Education

After completing B.Sc. Agriculture course, graduates will get access to different types of PG courses. PG stands for postgraduate level courses.

M.Sc. Agriculture is the most popular PG course among B.Sc. Agriculture graduates. M.Sc. program is two years long. Apart from that, graduates even have access to different types of PG Diploma and PG Certificate (Agricultural science) programs.

They even have access to management programs such as – MBA, MMS, and PGDM programs. In short, they have access to different types of Master’s and PG level programs.

After completing the relevant M.Sc. course, interested candidates may apply for Ph.D. admission. Ph.D. is a research-based program. It is a Doctoral Degree course. This program will help you build a decent career in the agriculture R&D sector.
