Course Duration: The course duration is 5 years for UTME Students and 4 years for Direct Entry Students starting from level 200 (year two).

UTME O’level Requirements for Mechanical Engineering
Candidates who wish to gain admission to study mechanical engineering programme at any University in Nigeria must have at least Five (5) SSCE (WAEC/NECO) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject. Some schools accepts a combination of O’Level Results to admission consideration.

(iv) NDU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject
(v) OSUSTECH and LAGOS require a credit pass in Further Mathematics.
(vi) ESUTECH requires credit pass in English Language and other relevant subjects
(vii) FED-OYEEKITI and UMUDIKE same as in Civil Engineering
(viii) BELLS same as in Computer Engineering
(ix) LASU as for two sittings, requires six credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, one Science subject and any other subject.
(x) RSUST – Same as in Civil Engineering.
(xi) IBADAN – As in Agric & Environmental Engineering
(i) Use of English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics
Direct Entry Requirements Mechanical Engineering
Candidates who wish to gain admission into mechanical engineering programme at any University in Nigeria at direct entry level must have;
(i) Two ‘A’ level passes
(ii) OND upper
credit, NCE technical
and HND in Mech.
Special Admission Considerations for Direct Entry Candidates
(i) CRUTECH, RSUST, IGBINEDION, EKSU and MINNA – as in Civil Engineering.
(ii) MAKURDI, FUTO, ILORIN, and UNN- as in Agric Engineering.
(iii) BENIN and LAGOS – as in Chemical Engineering
(iv) LAGOS, OAU, BAYERO and FUTA – do not accept NCE (Tech)
(v) UYO- As in Computer Engineering.
(vi) UMUDIKE and LAUTECH accept OND/HND upper credit level into 200 and 300 level respectively.
(vii) FUTO accepts OND/HND upper credit in relevant field for four (4) year programme.
(viii) MINNA accepts OND/HND lower credits in relevant courses.
(ix) ANSU accept OND/HND(lower credit) in Mech. Eng. And at least a pass in English Language.
(x) MAUTY accepts:
(a) GCE `A’ level passes in the relevant subjects with at least three credits passes in mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
(b) OND/HND with a minimum of lower credit in relevant Course
(xi) OOU accepts OND/HND in relevant field.
(xiii) CARITAS, PHC and NDU – No Direct Entry.
(xiv) FUTA accepts GCE ‘A’ level passes at one sitting in at least two of the following subjects, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in addition to the ‘O’ level requirement
(xv) ESUTECH does not accept lower credit for Direct Entry
(xvi) LAUTECH and BENIN as in Chemical Engineering.
(xvii) LAGOS accepts OND (Distinction) in Mechanical Engineering.
(xviii) FUTA accepts OND at Upper Credit level or other professional qualification in the relevant discipline in addition to the O’ level requirements or GCE ‘A’ level passes at one sitting in at least two of the following subjects, Chemistry, Physics and Math in addition to the ‘O’ level requirements.
(xix) OAU admits OND/HND in Mechanical Engineering (Upper Credit) to Part II and III
(xx) ABU accepts:
(a) Two ‘A’ level/IJAMB passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
(b) ND upper credit, NCE technical and HND Lower Credit in Mech. Engineering.
(xxi) BELLS accepts
(a) Two A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics / Chemistry.
(b) ND/HND (Upper Credit respectively) in Mechanical Engineering.
(xxiii) IBADAN – As in Agric & Environmental Engineering
(xxiv) LASU accepts
(a) Its own Diploma at Upper Credit level in relevant fields or Foundation Programme certificate.
(b) ND (Distinction) or HND (Upper credit) into 200 level.
(c) HND (Distinction) into 300 level.
(xxv) RSUST and ABUAD – Same as in Civil Engineering.
(xxvi) FUNAAB accepts GCE `A’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent.
FUNAAB accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant disciplines.
(xxvii) NDA requires the other Science subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology and Geography
